Gulf Sands Petroleum and Emerald Energy have honoured their Syrian hosts and extended their stay on the prospective Block 26, where a production-sharing contract is in effect.

The terms of the first extension are now at play, with first period of exploration over.

Apart from releasing a quarter of the Block 26, operator Gulfsands must over three years survey 250 square-kilometres of desert with 3D seismic and drill two exploration wells.

The block is known for the Kurben East discovery.
