Paris-based seismic outfit CGGVeritas has ordered two seismic vessels from Norwegian shipbuilder Eidesvik Offshore for a combined $420 million, with deliveries timed for 2010, when most of today's newbuild semi-submersibles begin exploring the seas.

CGGVeritas agreed 12-year time charters for the ships, which will pull “Sercel solid streamer technology” in either “16 long” or “20 short” configurations of trailing gear.

The order brings the number of large, Eidesvik-owned seismic vessels in the Veritas fleet to seven. The two newest will boast the backward-bending X-Bow design.

Ulstein shipyard will build the 106-metre vessels for NOK1,250.
